Mystery Reader #11: A Horse Loving Mom

 1. I was a Lanesboro Burro from kindergarten through 12th grade.

2. I enjoy running.

3. I have one daughter, two dogs, and too many horses!

The whole class was certain whose mom would be surprising us as a Mystery Reader after reading the clues today!  Although many students in our class love horses, only one mom fit all of these clues.  She read us a special book made especially for her daughter.  It was fun for us to put the letters together throughout the book to spell out her daughter's name!  We also enjoyed learning more about our Mystery Reader's job and her horses!  Thanks for reading to us today, Alesha!

Cereal Box Challenge

 On Friday, the elementary students gathered in the gym to watch the cereal box challenge.  The elementary collected a total of 220 boxes of cereal!  The boxes were set up in a design to fall like dominoes!  All of the cereal will be donated to the Preston Food Shelf.

Student Writing Project- Poetry Books

 We recently finished writing four poems for our poetry books.  Each student wrote an acrostic poem, portrait poem, haiku, and 2 words on a line poem.  The students created a piece of artwork to go with each poem.  The books were completed with an About the Author page.  Their books turned out so nice, and the class couldn't wait to see them all put together on Friday.  The books will be on the rug for a few weeks for the class to enjoy!

Mystery Reader #10: Our First High School Duo!

 1. We are the first Mystery Reader duo!

2.  We didn't always go to the same school.

3.  We became friends over quarantine.

These clues left the class completely clueless!  Mason had one more trick up his sleeve.  He wanted to come back as a Mystery Reader with a good friend of his who just began attending Lanesboro Schools a few months ago.  They read one of our favorites, "Watch Me Throw the Ball!" by Mo Willems.  We also enjoyed listening to a few guitar tunes at the end.  Thank you for reading to us this week, Mason and Lucas!  We loved it!  

Mystery Reader #9: A Horse Riding Mom

 1. I love horses.

2. I have 4 kiddos.

3. I work across the hall.

These clues lead us in only one direction- across the hall!  There are 2 teachers across the hall, and one of them rides horses and the other does not!  That made our guess pretty clear!  Her daughter was so excited to share the center stage with her mom today.  Miss Shanalee read "If You Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, Don't!"  This was a fun story for the 2nd graders since they hadn't heard it before.  The class also enjoyed asking Miss Shanalee all about horses and school when she grew up.  The kids love learning more about the adults that come in to to read to us.  Thanks so much Shanalee!  We loved it!

Mystery Reader #8: A Volleyball Loving Older Sister

1. I have a cat.

2. I love volleyball.

3. I have 1 sibling.

The class predicted this older sister would be walking in as our Mystery Reader on Tuesday.  They could think of a few possibilities of people who like cats, but this individual fit all of the clues with actually having a cat.  Her sister couldn't have been happier to see her, and have her read a story to us.  She read "If You Give a Dog a Donut" by Laura Numeroff.  Another excellent choice to go along with our circle story writing.  Thanks so much big sister for reading to us!

Mystery Reader #7: A Basketball Playing Aunt!

 1. I am an aunt.

2. I love being outside and especially going for walks or runs.

3. In my spare time I like to play a game of "Pig" in basketball with my nephews and beat them.

This wonderful aunt is also a high school teacher at our school!  Many of the students, along with her nephew, know her and love her!  She was previously a kindergarten teacher in her career, so I knew she would be a fantastic reader for us!  She picked out a book from her favorite series, "Berenstain Bears and the Double Dare." The students loved the voices she read for each character, and the book had a great lesson for us about being kind and honest.  Thanks Ms. Overland for being our Mystery Reader!
